Import your YNAB data into Fyncora

Bring your YNAB history across with a read-only token or a register CSV — Fyncora combines the Outflow and Inflow columns so every amount points the right way.

YNAB gives you two ways out, and Fyncora supports both: a read-only API token that pulls your data directly, or the register CSV you export yourself.

What you'll need

Option 1 — a Personal Access Token (easiest). In YNAB, open Account Settings → Developer Settings and create a New Token. It's read-only: it can pull your transactions, and that's all it can do.

Option 2 — a register CSV. Open YNAB on the web, go to the account register, and select Export. The file has the columns Date, Payee, Category, Memo, Outflow, Inflow, Account.

Note:

Note: the token is used once to pull your data and is never stored. Fyncora never asks for your YNAB password.

Import your history

  1. In Fyncora, open Transactions and select Switch from another app.
  2. Pick YNAB (You Need A Budget).
  3. Paste your token — or skip it and upload the register CSV instead.
  4. Map each YNAB account to a Fyncora account, creating any that don't exist yet.
  5. Review the category matches and the preview, then commit.

The part that matters here is the amounts. YNAB doesn't write signed numbers — it writes two positive columns, Outflow (money out) and Inflow (money in), and fills in one of them per row. Fyncora combines them as Inflow − Outflow, so spending arrives as expenses and income as income. Payee becomes the merchant and Memo is kept in notes. CSV dates are read as MM/DD/YYYY.

What comes across, and what doesn't

Comes across: your transactions, each carrying the category name it had in YNAB (matched to your Fyncora categories; anything unmatched arrives uncategorized for you to fix in bulk).

Doesn't come across: your budget structure — category targets and allocations — and scheduled transactions. YNAB's envelope budgeting doesn't map one-to-one onto Fyncora's monthly budgets, and a guessed translation would be wrong, so set your budgets up fresh: see Create your first budget.

After the import

Check a handful of rows before you trust the numbers — rent negative, paycheck positive. If something looks off, open Transactions, find the import batch, and select Delete batch to remove everything that import created in one step.

FAQ

Why are amounts flipped, or all pointing one way? The file was read with another app's rules instead of YNAB's twin columns. Delete the batch and re-import with YNAB selected as the source, so Outflow and Inflow are combined correctly.

Why were rows rejected for their dates? YNAB register CSVs use MM/DD/YYYY, which the preset expects. If you edited the file in a spreadsheet app first, export a fresh one and re-import.

I ran both the token pull and a CSV — did I double everything? No. Fyncora fingerprints each row (date, amount, description, account) and skips ones it already has, so the overlap is ignored.
