How this is worked out
  • First year = one-off costs + twelve months of baby costs + childcare for the months after leave + the pay you give up while on leave.
  • “Left each month” is take-home pay minus what you spend today, minus the baby's costs for that month.
  • “Tightly” means a phase leaves less than 5% of your take-home pay.
